Planning Board Removes Chairman, Planner, Lawyer
January 9, 1997

CLINTON TWP. - After serving for 20 years on the Planning Board, Maryann Lenio resigned Monday night during the board's annual reorganization meeting.

She said behind-the-scenes efforts by board members to oust professional appointees and Don Cush as chairman prompted her decision.

"If changes were going to be made they should have been discussed in front of the full board first,'' she said Tuesday.

Jim Imbriaco, who Mayor Michael Van Tassel named to a Class 4 four-year term, was voted in as chairman, and Pat Papa as vice chairman. Mr. Cush had served as chairman for seven years.

The board declined to reappoint attorney William Shurts and planner Michael Bolan. It named Michael Ligorano as board attorney and left the position of planner vacant, but the board is scheduled to interview Bob O'Grady of Catlin Associates of Denville on Monday night. He has represented the board in the past, Board Administrator Patricia Schickendanz said.

Robert Bogart won reappointment as the board's engineer. The board announced the appointments after more than an hour-long closed session.

In other changes, Chris D'Alleinne assumed the one-year Class 2 term formerly held by Mr. Imbriaco. Dan Fennel took over a one-year unexpired Class 4 term formerly held by Mr. D'Alleinne. Mr. Van Tassel appointed Bill Barr to an alternate two-year term and Robert Hyde to an alternate one-year unexpired term vacated by Dennis Healey. Mr. Van Tassel will serve on the board throughout his term as mayor.

Ms. Lenio's seat remained unfilled as of Tuesday.
